July 17, 2010 UTEP's Centennial Museum renovated their geology display with a lot of imagination, and we heard about that. In our second hour, the El Paso Museum of Archaeology is hosting an exhibit about some of the cultures of west Mexico, ancient and contemporary. Dr. Richard Durschlag, Curator at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology talked about some Mexicans descending from other than the Aztec and Maya civilizations.

July 10, 2010 El Paso in the 1870s and 1880s were important in the development of the City of El Paso. Prince McKenzie and Keith Wilden were in the studio to define those years for us.

July 3, 2010 We had a student reporter, Samamtha Quijas, in the studio to interview Leon and Jackson about their careers.

April 10, 2010 The Mission Trail Association is having The 19th FIRST THANKSGIVING RE-ENACTMENT and Second Historical Conference April 23, 24 and 25, 2010. The Mission Trail Association told us how much history they can pack into three days.

April 3, 2010 Learn all about Shakespeare, New Mexico and why this old ghost town was once the location of a diamond mine. Hear from Keith Wilden and Rod Linkous, both local historians who spend a lot of time out in that New Mexico desert, and deserted, town.

March 27, 2010 We talked about Las Cruces history with Mary Kay Shannon from the Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces. They also have Onate history and an old animal trackway that pre-dates dinosaurs. Jerry MacDonald was also in the studio to explain Prehistoric Trackways National Monument.

March 20, 2010 The next public pilgrimage on Mount Cristo Rey is Good Friday, April 2, 2010. Our guest was Ruben Escandon, VP and spokesperson for the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committee, who discussed the history of Mount Cristo Rey. We also had live phone reports from the Poppy Fest at the Museum of Archaeology.

March 13, 2010 The topic was the annual Poppy Fest and the geological and political history of the Franklin Mountains. Our guests were Judy Ackerman, Eric Kappus, and Virginia Morris.

March 6, 2010 We talked about some of the locations in El Paso that were part of the Mexican Revolution with Elias Bonilla and Bill Rakocy.

In the second hour we had a gun expert appraiser, Joel Jones, to tell stories and answer questions about all kinds of guns in Old West history. He is part of the El Paso Appraisal Fair set for February 21st, 2010.

January 16, 2010 The topic in the first hour was Freemasonry and how that group of men were major players in the founding of the Republic of Texas and the United States. Second hour, we visited with people from the El Paso Museum of History to hear about their new exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci.

January 9, 2010 How is downtown history affected by the redevelopment plan now that emminent domain was voted on? Enrique Medrano and Gilbert Guillen were in to discuss it.

January 2, 2010 Commerce and business in El Paso has grown in many ways over the decades. Kurt Goetting and Vincent Kemendo were in the studio with stories about El Paso in the early to mid-1900s.

December 26, 2009 The topic was gunfights in old west El Paso and how the town changed in the late 1800s. Our guests were Keith Wilden and Rod Linkous.

December 19, 2009 We had author Jackie Martinez on the program to tell us about the book she co-wrote with Maury Kemp called Making It, The Story of a Business Empire.

December 12, 2009 Bernie Sargent was in to co-host for a day and talk about the El Paso County Historical Commission with Patricia Kiddney. In the second hour the topic was the County Historical Society and what the Society has planned to promote El Paso history.

December 5, 2009 We heard about the history of Austin High School from the AHS Alumni Association. In our second hour, the topic was the dedication and Catholic Mass for the newly rebuilt Virgin of Guadalupe Shrine on the side of Mount Cristo Rey.

November 28 2009 We filled the studio with matachine dancers and drums demonstrated the centuries-old custom of dancing with drums to honor the Virgin of Guadalupe each December. Vince and Sam Sanchez explained the ceremony.

November 21, 2009 Fred Morales was our guest to talk about the Mexican Revolution 100th anniversay next year at this time.

November 14, 2009 Our focus was El Paso railway history with Ron Dawson, author of a new book called "Street Railways of El Paso." Prince McKenzie was also our guest.

November 7, 2009 We talked about the new Buffalo Soldier Memorial at Concordia Cemetery that is about to be dedicated. And Al Borrego was in to tell us about some San Elizario history.

October 31, 2009 Jim Murphy has a new book out about El Paso history, and he joined us to explain 100 years of our past.

October 24, 2009 The spirit world and El Paso history are linked at many places in the county. We heard from Gary Monteleone about his haunted restaurant. Psychic Diana Calamia was on the program. She toured Monteleone's and had a ghost report. Bernie Sargent was also with us in the Leon chair as Leon vacationed in West VA for a few days.

October 17, 2009 The topic in our first hour was El Paso aviation history, and we talked El Paso ghost stories in our second hour.

October 10, 2009 Hueco Tanks rangers talked about its annual Interpretive Fair, and Concordia Cemetery folks explained its annual Walk Through History.

October 3, 2009 We heard about El Paso rock and roll music history and a big concert called Border Legends. In our second hour we talked with the Wyler Tramway folks about their part in the celebration of Our Mountains.

September 26, 2009 We talked about the Celebrations of Our Mountains events with Bernie Sargent, Judy Ackerman, and Ruben Escandon. And, we talked about Volume 2 of "Ghost Stories of El Paso."

September 19, 2009 San Elizario history was our topic as Main Street Gallery owner Al Borrego described the monthly Art Market at the San Elizario Plaza. We will show "Ghost Stories of El Paso, Vol.1" at the Art Market in the Adobe Horseshoe. Are there ghosts in San Elizario?

September 12, 2009 The Franklin Mountains State Park was our topic as ranger Kelly Serio was in the studio to talk about upcoming events and mountain history. Plus the second hour was open phones with Leon.

September 5, 2009 El Paso author John Middagh reviewed the Battle of Brazito, and explained one unusual aspect of the American troops. In the second hour, El Paso author Bob Skimin told us about the Onate expedition into New Mexico and his book series.

August 29, 2009 Gary Williams was in the studio with some of the El Paso County Historical Commission members to review many projects and ideas that the Commission is working on to promote and preserve El Paso history.

August 22, 2009 Fred Morales was in the studio with a look at a Congressional Medal of Honoree from El Paso. And, Fred talked about various aspects of El Paso history.

August 15, 2009 We hosted the annual John Wesley Hardin Secret Society as they explained their public fundraiser gunfight reenactments around the famous gunfighter's grave. Hundreds of people fill that part of the cemetery each August 19th in the evening for the ceremonies and reenactments.

August 8, 2009 The management staff of the El Paso Museum of History was in the studio, led by new Museum of History Director, Julia Bussinger. We discussed all things historic about El Paso and the museum. Julia described her plans for the Museum, and what the Museum is doing now; including membership drives, fundraising, and special historical exhibits.

August 1, 2009 Trost and Trost and Trost; a lot of El Paso architecture is historic, and El Paso City preservation officer Troy Ainsworth was in the studio with El Paso architect, Bill Helm. These two talked about El Paso architecture history.

July 25, 2009 We talked about dinosaur tracks, fossils, and other interesting geology of the El Paso area with Eric Kappus. As a UTEP student, Eric discovered the Mount Cristo Rey dinosaur tracks from 100 million years ago. AND, guitar player and songwriter, Tim Thompson joined us in the second hour with his music about El Paso history.

July 18, 2009 Buffalo Soldier history was our topic, especially at Concordia Cemetery where a new Buffalo Soldier Monument is being built.

July 11, 2009 July 11th is Tom Lea's Birthday, and we celebrated the occasion with Adair Margo, Tom Moore, and Mardee Dewedder. They all knew Tom Lea. Adair explained the new non-profit Tom Lea Institute and series of lectures, seminars, and films in July, 2009 to commemorate Tom Lea Month.

July 4, 2009 We had a LIVE show! with tales of El Paso and experiences of living here since the 1950s with Rosa Guerrero, Dr. Maria Aceves, and Enrique Medrano. And, of course, native El Pasoan Jackson, plus Leon, who is now a native since he has lived here for more than a decade.

June 27, 2009 We heard from the archivist at the El Paso Times, Trish Long, who spends her time in the newspaper's morgue of old files of all kinds. We asked her about early history of newspapers in El Paso, and callers asked her to look up stuff for her weekly column in the El Paso Times.

June 20, 2009 Texas Parks and Wildlife brought Hueco Tanks Park staff and guests to review state policies about Hueco Tanks, and how the Park is also a State Historic Site, and what that means. We discussed rock climbers, the environment, and cultural heritage at Hueco Tanks.

June 13, 2009 Fred Morales was in the studio to talk about the El Paso area during the Great Depression and World War 2. In the second hour, Richard Bussell from the El Paso County Historical Society joined us to describe some hotels and other very early El Paso places.

June 6, 2009 The discussion was about the Special Forces Association, Isaac Camacho Chapter IX, and the Roy P. Benavidez-Robert Patterson "All Airborne" Chapter, 82nd Airborne Division Association.

May 30, 2009 We had live coverage of the second annual Appraisal Fair from the El Paso Women's Club. Plus, there was a discussion about the history of the Women's Club, and the history of the El Paso County Historical Society.

May 23, 2009 We previewed the 2009 El Paso Appraisal Fair set for May 30th in our first hour and we saw how it works. Plus we talked about the TV show "El Paso Appraisal Fair" from the 2008 Fair that is broadcast in the evening of May 23rd at 8:00pm to 8:30pm. In our second hour, we heard about an old adobe building in San Elizario and a new art gallery that now lives there.

May 16, 2009 We hosted a gathering of several Native Americans to voice their opinions on the radio about Hueco Tanks.

May 9, 2009 Dolly Dingle's Tea Party, The Second Annual El Paso Appraisal Fair, and the Password are what's happening at the El Paso County Historical Society in May, and we heard from Magda Flores and Pat Worthington. In the second hour, we talked about the 100-year history of the El Paso YWCA.

May 2, 2009 The El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Dept. is hosting Chinese culture in the month of May with several events that we heard about. In our second hour, we heard about the El Paso Aviation Exhibit and a special "Fly-In" day at the El Paso Museum of History.

April 25, 2009 Who was Maude Sullivan? We heard how one woman helped create the El Paso Library, from three people who's families knew her.

April 18, 2009 El Paso’s Mission Trail Association and the San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society explained the history of El Paso’s founding with the First Thanksgiving near San Elizario in 1598. They explained their annual conference, re-enactment, and a festival that went into the night.

April 11, 2009 Fort Bliss Command Historian John Hamilton has been writing the official history of the Fort Bliss Air Defense Artillery. He was in to discuss that project, and other aspects of Fort Bliss history.

April 4, 2009 Who was artist Manuel Acosta? We found out in our first hour as we heard El Paso Museum of Art Curator Christian Gerstheimer explain a new exhibit of Acosta’s work at the Museum, plus Bill RAkocy was in to tell us about Manny the man. In our second hour, we talked with El Paso artist Debra Cool-Flowers about unique artist styles she sees in the rock art at Hueco Tanks.

March 28, 2009 El Paso Insights Science Museum director Harry Cole was in to tell us about how DINOSAURS have once again invaded his museum. Plus, we heard about the history of El Paso Kiwanis Clubs and a US Flag project they want to take City-wide.

March 21, 2009 Fred Morales was back in the studio to discuss some of his favorite El Paso history stories, and why more historic markers should be placed in Chihuahuita.

March 14, 2009 The first hour was a review of "A History of the El Paso Center for Children," about orphanages in El Paso. Poppy Festival and the Poppy Film Fest were underway this day at the museum of Archaeology, and also we talked about a new exhibit opening March 15th at the Museum of History about El Paso Aviation.

March 7, 2009 Poppy Festival 2009 had many things to see and do, and we heard about that event and the history of archaeological research in El Paso.

February 28, 2009 The El Paso County Historical Commission explained the historic marker program they administer and how citizens can request a marker from the Texas Historical Commission.

February 21, 2009 What is the history of Billy the Kid in the region? We asked Lincoln County's expert, Drew Gomber, and his new wife Elise, to explain all things Billy.

February 14, 2009 Bill Berry was in the studio with Stephanie Caveness to explain running history in El Paso, and a marathon they are running. In our second hour, Elias Bonilla updated the planning for the Mexican Revolution events, and how he wants to find descendents of Pancho Villa.

February 7, 2009 We talk about rock art of the El Paso area with Marilyn Guida from the El Paso Museum of Archaeology in our first hour. Rick LoBello from the El Paso Zoo is in the second hour to relate zoo history and current events.

January 31, 2009 Pat Abelin, retiring director of the El Paso International Airport, was our guest to talk about the history of the airport.

January 24, 2009 We talk with a 100-year-old woman who was chased out of Mexico by Pancho Villa. Quite a story.

January 17, 2009 Retired Fire Chief Roberto Rivera told us about the history of the El Paso Fire Department and his years as Chief.

January 10, 2009 100 years of Boy Scouts in El Paso, and a tribute to all Eagle Scouts. We visit with Troop 4 Scout Master Sam Snoddy and David Jones, Yucca Council, Boy Scouts of America, who will review the 100 years of El Paso Boy Scout history and how they are looking for all Eagle Scouts to honor them in the upcoming 100th anniversary celebrations.
Also on January 10th, in the second hour, Pete Flores is in the studio to explain a memorial project he has helped create to honor the 1949 Bowie Bears All State Baseball Champions.

December 27, 2008 Bill Rakocy stopped by to tell tales of El Paso, art history, and a book about Mogollon, NM.

December 20, 2008 Jon Hansen, state Commissioner at the Texas Historical Comission, and long-time El Paso history advocate and fisherman Sam Moore told us about Texas history, El Paso history, and how these subjects are viewed at the state level.

December 13, 2008 Bernie Sargent lead the discussion with Leon about a book on Emilio Zapata with author Sam Brunk. Then the topic changed to the history of El Paso law enforcement with Harry Kirk.

December 6, 2008 Our guest is Pete Flores and he told some tales of his life in El Paso, including his stories of ghosts in the Plaza Theatre. Plus, we whd have a guest who rode on horseback to El Paso from Canada, and just arrived in El Paso.

November 29, 2008 We had a great discussion about Tom Lea artwork in El Paso and Washington, DC plus a review of a memorable trip by several El Pasoans to see a Tom Lea painting in the Oval Office.

November 22, 2008 Mexican Revolution was the topic with Dawn Thurmond from the El Paso History Museum, author Fred Morales, and Elias Bonilla, an El Paso historian and member of the El Paso County Historical Commission. One focus was the showing of the DVD "Mexican Revolution Sites in El Paso" at the Museum at 2pm that day.

November 15, 2008 Jim Murphy, Director of Development at the El Paso History Museum, was in to explain a new exhibit titled IMMIGRANT WOMEN OF EL PASO, and we heard from John Paul Jones about El Paso Airport history and a banquet that night.

November 8, 2008 El Paso author Fred Morales was in the studio to discuss his new book about El Paso's Union Plaza District.

November 1, 2008 It was an all-Trost program as we invited Troy Ainsworth and architect Bill Helm to explain the El Paso buildings designed and built by architect Henry Trost.

October 25, 2008 An historic steam engine is on display, and Locomotive 3420 was featured on this hour of the program. In the second hour, we got ready for the downtown celebrations of All Saints Day and the Day of the Dead November 1st and 2nd, 2008. One part of that schedule on Saturday, Nov.1, 2008 was the premiere of "Ghost Stories of El Paso, Volume 1," and we will discuss that new DVD about the spirits that dwell in and around various El Paso historic sites on the radio program.

October 18, 2008 The El Paso Museum of Archeology held a special event and Museum Director Dr. Marc Thompson explained. And the El Paso County Historical Society was in our second hour to tell us about The Hall of Honor Banquet, Password, and their newsletter, the Conquistador.

October 11, 2008 El Paso's Magoffin Home State Historic Site had fall activities to tell us about in the first hour. And, in the second hour, you heard all about the Wyler Aerial Tramway in the Franklin Mountains State Park.

October 4, 2008 The Metz show was pre-empted so you could hear coverage of the NMSU football game with Alcorn State, played in Las Cruces, N.M. at 10:30 A.M.

September 27, 2008 We heard Fort Bliss history in El Paso, from "The Post Opposite El Paso," to La Noria Mesa and the Air Defense Artillery Museum. Fort Bliss has been an integral part of the valley's history for more than 150 years.

September 20, 2008 UTEP geology professor Bill Cornell joined us to describe the geological history of the El Paso area.

September 13, 2008 We heard about the railroad history of Southern New Mexico including the Cloudcroft rail line. Our second hour was about the annual Celebration of Our Mountains and we had a ranger in the studio from the Franklin Mountains State Park to help us get the details.

September 6, 2008 How should you preserve your family papers, heirlooms, and collections? Lynn Polk told us how. And, We heard about the El Paso Rodeo history in our second hour.

August 30, 2008 In our first hour we talked about Hueco Tanks and the 150th anniversary of the Butterfield Stagecoach. Our second hour was a look at the history of Mount Cristo Rey and a new tile donation project.

August 23, 2008 St. Clements Church held its Centennial/Jubilee Celebrations on August 24th and we heard the details. In our second hour, El Paso's Insights Science Museum director Harry Cole was in the studio and we discussed a new exhibit on nano technology.

August 16, 2008 John Wesley Hardin was our topic and we discussed the impact he had on El Paso. Concordia heritage folks were in to talk about his demise.

August 9, 2008 What's new and/or historic at the El Paso County Historical Commission? Chairman Bernie Sargent told us about El Paso's Camino Real, and we heard the details from Elias Bonilla about Don Juan de Onate.

August 2, 2008 El Paso author Lawrence Welsh talked about his reasons for living in El Paso, and a book he wrote about some El Paso history. In the second hour, Eric Pearson was in to review the history of the Plaza Theatre and he told us about a new ( old ) film series in August at the Plaza.

July 19, 2008 The Texas Historical Commission oversees the State of Texas efforts to preserve Texas History. One former State Commissioner, Frank Gorman, and a current State Commissioner, Jon Hansen, are both El Pasoans, and both are on the program.

July 12, 2008 We talked about the good old day stories about El Paso, TWC and UTEP history professors, and decades of newspaper stories with vetrans of the El Paso newspaper business, Betty Ligon and Nancy Hamilton.

July 5, 2008 El Paso author Fred Morales was our guest. Fred has a new book out about Evergreen Cemetery, and has a talk about the Cemetery on the same day at the Library downtown at 1pm. He also explained the history of the Union Plaza District on the radio program.

June 14, 2008 Two local experts on Texas history, Deen Underwood and Elias Bonilla, convened for a discussion about new archeological evidence from the battle of San Jacinto. They also reviewed a new book called "Slaughter at Goliad" and we talked live by phone with the author, Jay Stout.

June 7, 2008 There's a new ghost tour forming at Concordia Cemetery and the details were our topic on this program. Leon also interviewed Jackson about DVDs, and Jackson interviewed Leon about his books.

May 31, 2008 What is going on around the El Paso area in science, astronomy, the New Mexico Spaceport, and such? The director of EPISD’s Gene Roddenberry Planetarium is John Peterson, and he let us know about all that. In our second hour, we also heard a preview of a Sunday June 1st talk about the railroads of Mexico in the Mexican Revolution.

May 24, 2008 El Paso City Rep. Susie Byrd was in the studio with Ron Dawson, an expert on El Paso trolleys and trains. Troy Ainsworth was also on the program, and he is the City's preservation officer. Historic preservation, Mandy's mule car, trolleys, trains were all on the schedule of topics.

May 17, 2008 Fort Bliss Cemetery was our topic with the Cemetery director, Cindy van Bibber. In the second hour we heard about the new Magoffin Home DVD Update, and how the Home has changed in several ways in the last few years. AND, Bernie Sargent was be in the studio in this second hour to tell us about the El Paso County Historical Commission's recent state awards, The Commission's part in the "Magoffin Update 2008" DVD, and what else is happening in El Paso for Preservation Month.

May 10, 2008 El Paso has a 4 by 4 Club that visits and camps at various sites around the El Paso region that are most interesting, and we hears about their adventures. In the second hour, we focused on the new additions to the Mexican Revolution exhibit at the International Museum of Art.

May 3, 2008 May is Preservation Month in Texas and the El Paso County Historical Commission was in the studio to explain their efforts in El Paso County.

April 26, 2008 Author Paul Cool was in the studio to discuss his new book called Salt Warriors, Insurgency on the Rio Grande, about the San Elizario Salt War. In the second hour, we heard the details about the Antique Appraisal fundraiser at the El Paso Museum of History on April 27th.

April 19, 2008 Author Joaquin Jackson, a retired Texas Ranger, has another book out called Texas Ranger Returns, and he was in the studio to describe it. In our second hour, we heard about the San Elizario Geneology Society's annual history conference.

November 24, 2007 Gene Keller and Doug Adamz talked about El Paso's performing music business since they got into it in the 1960s. They played some new CD tunes and old favorites that they also performed Sunday Nov. 25th in a concert at the International Museum of Art.

November 17, 2007 Fred Morales explained a new DVD about the Mexican Revolution. It is a walking tour with Fred and Leon Metz called "Mexican Revolution Sites in El Paso." Judge Bill Moody was also in the studio with his perspective on the Mexican Revolution.

October 20, 2007 The El Paso County Historical Society was in to explain their annual Hall of Honor Awards Dinner where three El Pasoans will be honored for their input to El Paso. El Paso author and historian Fred Morales talked about historic Evergreen Cemetery and people from the Mexican Revolution who are buried there.

September 29, 2007 Randy Limbird and Melissa Sargent took us through the Celebration of Our Mountains history and events, and how everyone can get involved. Then, in the second hour, Las Cruces Catholic Diocese Bishop Ricardo Ramirez was in the studio to talk about the 25th anniversary of the Diocese and his tenure there, plus his thoughts on historic places in the Diocese, including Mount Cristo Rey.

September 22, 2007 The Cowboy Church people at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Canutillo, Texas are having a Country Fair on Oct. 6th and they told us all about that. Then, in our second hour, the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committee discussed their mountain's history, and how they see this Catholic Shrine's future.

September 15, 2007 Prince McKenzie and Ed Leonard explained the history of trains in El Paso and Locomotive No.1 that is housed at the El Paso Transportation Museum on San Antonio Street downtown. In the second hour, we heard from LA Times reporter Sam Quinones who has written a book about the Juarez velvet painting industry and how it was that city's first real manufacturing business as dozens of artists turned out hundreds of those velvet-Elvis paintings weekly. Eskimos bought them in Alaska.

September 8, 2007 George Torok and Ben Brown were in the studio to explain a Camino Real conference on September 15th, and Jack Niland, President of the El Paso County Historical Society, explained the new Password publication and the many Fall activities of the Society.

August 25, 2007 A group of El Paso authors teamed up to explain some of their works, including Patsy King, John Middagh, and Paul Geneson. John Middagh's book is called "Tales from the Horse, Through the Eyes of the Cowboy Trading Post." Paul Geneson's book is "47 Tales of a Lifetime." In the second hour, we invited Bill Rakocy and Mary Russell in for their take on the Wilderness Park and the El Paso Museum of Archeology.

August 18, 2007 Direct from the 1890s, we had Beula Mroz and Martin Mroz, and then J. W. Hardin himself, on the radio to explain why Concordia Cemetery is one of the most historic places in El Paso County. Hardin's demise is remembered each August 19th at Concordia, and we heard about this year's program at the cemetery.

August 11, 2007 Heritage tourism and eco-tourism, and Castner Range were some of the topics for 2 hours with County Commissioner Veronica Escobar, Yolanda Alameda, El Paso City Director for Museums and Cultural Affairs, and Maria Trunk, President of the Frontera Land Alliance. Many callers!

August 4, 2007 We talked with folks from the only National Park in El Paso; the Chamizal National Memorial. And, in our second hour, we heard about the annual reunion of the people from Smeltertown.

July 28, 2007 Our topic was the recent City of El Paso plan to move the Museum of Archeology from Northeast El Paso to Downtown to become part of the new History Museum. Our guests included Northeast City Rep. Melina Castro and two people from the El Paso Archeological Society; President Bill Luther, and ,member Buddy York. It was a lively discussion. July 21, 2007 San Elizario, Texas has some of El Paso's oldest history. We asked several reenactors from the San Eli Desperados, including at least one historian, to join us to explain the history there.

July 14, 2007 The El Paso Writer's League has some interesting El Paso history and they had a Celebration of the Arts event we heard about.

July 7, 2007 We heard about the UTEP Centennial Museum's new exhibit on Tom Lea's work, and also about their permament exhibits. Then Keith Wilden described his Old West El Paso Gun Fight Tour that he conducts once a month in downtown El Paso and the new book he wrote about those tour sites.

June 30, 2007 We took a look at the geological history of the El Paso area with UTEP 's Professor Bill Cornell. We have some of the Continent's most diverse geology to be found within a 100-mile range of El Paso.

June 23, 2007 The Mesilla Valley Film Society wants to buy the Fountain Theatre in Mesilla, NM. They were in studio to explain the theatre's history and their plans. AND, we heard about the War Eagles Air Museum in Santa Teresa, NM and why it is a great museum to visit.

June 16, 2007 Fred Morales was in to describe his latest book on Chihuahita. Elias Bonilla joined us to review Fred's work and also talk about other El Paso history topics.

June 9, 2007 The author of a 3-book series was in the studio to talk about "The Life of Stuart van Slyke," who is a WW2 and Korean War Vet. After that, Mr. van Slyke sold real estate in El Paso since the 1950s and has seen El Paso grow. Second hour was a review of the grand opening for the El Paso Museum of History that happens on June 16th.

June 2, 2007 Our in-studio radio guests were Las Cruces historians Cal Traylor and David Thomas. We heard about Pat Garrett, Billy the Kid, and other tales from Southern New Mexico.

May 26, 2007 John Moses, Manager of the Texas Parks and Wildlife El Paso Complex, was in to help us understand what the Texas Legislature is doing about Texas parks and historical sites around El Paso. The chair of the El Paso County Historical Commission, Bernie Sargent, was in for both hours. In the second hour, Troy Ainsworth joined us to discuss his new job as El Paso City Historic Preservation Officer.

May 19, 2007 We heard from El Paso High alumns about their archive room with neat old stuff that is from the history of the first high school in El Paso. AND, in our second hour we talked with folks from the Frontera Land Alliance about their recent history of saving arroyos in El Paso.

May 12, 2007 Author Marian Haddad was here from San Antonio to stir up everyone with her stories about living in El Paso. Then another current San Antonio resident, but also a former El Pasoan, Sonny Melendrez, visited and traded stories about the radio industry in El Paso in the 1960s and 70s, and he explained his new internet radio station called Sonnyradio.com

May 5, 2007 We heard about the history in the large mural at Sacred Heart Church on Father Rahm Street in South El Paso with Enrique Medrano and Fr. Garcia. In the second hour, Jack Niland and Pat Worthington were in to explain the latest issue of Password, the quarterly publication of the El Paso County Historical Society.

April 28, 2007 Ruth Gillette was our guest in the first hour to discuss her family's 4 generations of El Paso history that covers lawyers to farmers, and more. In the second hour, Jay Duncan appeard to explain the fourth annual "IT CAME FROM THE FIFTIES" film festival and what strange stuff he will show on the big screen at the Chamizal this year.

April 21, 2007 The San Elizario Genealogy Society is holding the First Thanksgiving Conference on April 28th, and they explained their events and the history of San Eli. We also heard about the UTEP Centennial Museum native plant sale on the weekend of April 28 and 29 from Museum Curator Scott Cutler.

April 14, 2007 The Onate Monument events are the week of April 16th, and on this program we heard about the Onate Statue unveiling and dedication events with Adair Margo, Jody Schwartz, and Nick Houser, brother of sculptor John Houser's. John Houser called in to explain the cast bronze "lost'wax" process he used on the Onate Monument and how this statue was made. We heard a lot about the controversies surrounding the man, Onate, and on this program we also focused on the Monument as art.

April 7, 2007 Authors Mimi Gladstein and Sylvia Cohen were in the studio to explain their new book "Lone Stars of David, The Jews of Texas," that includes a chapter on El Paso. In the second hour we had a discussion about the New Downtown El Paso Public Library and how to research history there with the Director of Libraries, Carol Brey-Cassiano, and Marta Estrada, Librarian of the Border Heritage Collections.

March 31, 2007 Roses are historic in El Paso, especially at the El Paso Municipal Rose Garden on Copia Street in Central El Paso. In the second hour of the program, we heard from Fred Morales about the history exhibits he has around town.

March 24, 2007 Who was Don Juan de Onate and why is he controversial in El Paso these days? March 17, 2007 UTEP College of Engineering folks were in the studio on Saint Patrick's Day to explain why they paint themselves green and the "M" North of the Sun Bowl white each year to honor the patron Saint of Engineering, and how they've been doing that for decades at the University of Texas at El Paso. And in the second hour on the 17th, Ruben Escandon of the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committee explained some of the history of Mount Cristo Rey. March 10, 2007 Deen Underwood and Elias Bonilla discussed the Alamo from a Texas and a Mexican point of view. We got a lot of calls and input from all over the area this time about the Alamo story.

March 3, 2007 Jennie Neilsen, director of the new El Paso History Museum, and Museum curator, Barbara Angus, updated us on the new Museum's opening later this year. AND, the second hour discussion was with Sylvia Brenner from the Pancho Villa State Park in Columbus, NM and Deming, NM historian Paul Hoylen, about their March 10th, 2007 events to remember Pancho Villa's Raid on Columbus.

February 24, 2007 We heard about marathons in El Paso, old and new, in the second hour. In the first hour, we followed a story that Leon wrote about in his newspaper column on February 12, 2007, about a dance school run by Jim Hibbert. Betty DeuPree wanted to stop by and tell some more stories about this part of El Paso's history.

February 17, 2007 A new brochure is out about the Texas Mountain Trail system. Bernie Sargent was in to explain all that. In the second hour, Dr. Chuck Ambler and grad student Antonio Lopez from UTEP explained a conference this week at the University about border monuments and controversies, such as the Equestrian Onate Monument.

February 10, 2007 Deen Underwood and Elias Bonilla took point-counterpoint positions on the Texas Revolution and on the forming of the State of Texas. A view from Texas and a view from Mexico. Most interesting show, and we will have a re-match soon about just the Alamo.

February 3, 2007 Adair Margo and Jose Cisneros stopped by to visit with Leon in the first hour. In the second hour, Jack Niland, newly-elected president of the El Paso County Historical Society, explained a television project that will put El Paso history onto a national cable TV network. The next TV program is called "El Paso's Mount Cristo Rey." Radio co-host Jackson Polk is the producer of this TV series.

January 20, 2007 We discussed heritage tourism with the El Paso County Historical Commission Chair Bernie Sargent, and Commission members Gary Williams, Marc Thompson, and Leon Metz in the studio. Lotsa calls.

And in the second hour, El Paso artist Bill Rakocy stopped by to tell us about an old co-worker friend who became a legendary Hollywood film director, Robert Altman.

December 30, 2006 We discussed an unusual way to tell history with Kevin Wells; through the floors of the homes and businesses in El Paso. And in the second hour we heard from Derrell Hiett, the curator of the International Museum of Art, about, yes, his floors there, but also the history of the Museum and the Turney Mansion.

December 23, 2006 It was a year-in-review of activities at the El Paso County Historical Commission with Commission Chair Bernie Sargent, and Commission members Gary Williams, Frank Gorman, and of course, Leon Metz.

December 16, 2006 There's a new music CD about to hit the stores that is a volunteer effort by several El Paso musicians, including our Mayor, John Cook. He was there with us on the radio plus also a few of the other musicians who explained their songs. They played some of the music, and talked about how the sales will benefit flood victims from last summer's historic El Paso storms.

December 9, 2006 Members of the El Paso Ridgewalker Club were in the studio to tell us what it is like to climb the mountains around El Paso. We swapped stories about the Lost Padre Mine and other legends, like Pancho Villa's gold that he supposedly had buried on El Paso's Mount Franklin, and another treasure of some kind that Pancho Villa may have had hidden at Mount Cristo Rey. Leon does not think these stories are valid.

December 2, 2006 We heard about the Sunset Heights Tour of Homes on December 9th from Mr. Sunset Heights himself, Doug Yost. In the second hour, we talked guns and ammo of the old West with two experts. Brad Ouart works at the Collectors Gun Exchange, 7126 North Mesa, and Ken Smith is a reenactor with Six Guns and Shady Ladies. At 1pm to 3pm after the radio show we gathered at the store to see a special exhibit on John Wesley Hardin's probate papers and several bullets and shell casings that were in an envelope with the papers. May have been from Selman's gun. Maybe not. Those bullets made a sneak appearance on this hour of the radio show before going to the store!

November 25, 2006 Patty Apostoledes brought stories of her late anthropologist and historian husband Alex who had a radio program for decades about El Paso history. We played some clips of those shows.

November 18, 2006 El Paso author Bill Rakocy was in the studio to explain how to self-publish a book and tell us about his latest work. In the second hour, ABC 7 Anchor Gary Warner joined us to remember the 50 years of ABC 7's history.

Oct. 14, 2006 We heard about the history of Hueco Tanks State Historic Site and what they have planned for their annual Interpretive Fair. In our second hour the Concordia Heritage Association was back to explain their annual walk through history.

October 7, 2006 We heard about the 125-year history of Sacred Heart Church and the Jesuits in El Paso. Then, our second hour focused on big October doings at the Wyler Aerial Tramway and Magoffin Home.

September 30, 2006 In our first hour our guests were John Houser, creator of the Equestrian Monument, ( a.k.a. Don Juan de Onate Monument ) and Tony Pena, President of the 12 Travelers Monuments, who updated us on the Monument as it is about to be installed at the El Paso International Airport. Our second hour topic was that La Hacienda Cafe is re-opened! We re-visited some of the history of that place with the new restauranteur, Kay Quevado.

September 23, 2006 We heard from Lynn Polk ( 915-533-6364 ) about classes on how to preserve your family's heirlooms and treasures. In our second hour the Concordia Heritage Association was back for a re-match between John Wesley Hardin and the rain. The rain won the last round. John's demise was reenacted that night, Sept. 23rd.

August 19, 2006 Concordia Heritage Association was on the program on the anniversary date of the demise of John Wesley Hardin. We heard about the evening's cemetery events for that night in the graveyard.

August 12, 2006 We had a nice visit with Elias and Jane Bonilla. They have researched the American land and cattle companies in Old Mexico from 1870 to 1910 and explained how these large companies affected the region and the Mexican Revolution.

August 5, 2006 What's the PASSWORD? It is, literally, the talk of the pass at El Paso, Texas. The PASSWORD is a collection of original articles about El Paso history and is published by the El Paso County Historical Society. April 29, 2006 We heard the quarterly report from the El Paso County Historical Commission, Bernie Sargent, Chair. Yes, there is a new DVD called "El Paso's Historic Sites and Markers" that the Commission commissioned, and then the Commission greatly assisted in the creation of several portions of the DVD and GPS Directory booklet that is enclosed with the DVD. Bernie explained why this DVD is a breakthrough in using visitor technology. AND, in our second hour, a guest appearance from sculptor John Houser, who had just arrived in El Paso with the final monument of Don Juan de Onate, who had been re-named "The Equestrian" because some citizens raised enough anger to get the El Paso City Council to change the name. John Houser wants the name changed back to Onate.

March 18, 2006 Author and storyteller Marian Haddad was our guest. She talked about her experience growing up as an Arab-American in her native border town of El Paso and shared her view of our city and area history. During the show, she read some of her work, including her poem TRANSMOUNTAIN DRIVE, El Paso, Texas.

March 11, 2006 Award -winning Bernie Sargent was our guest. He is the chairman of the El Paso County Historical Commission, and described some of the Commission's activities in preserving and promoting El Paso County history. Bernie also just received the 2006 John B. Shepperd Historical Commission Leadership Award, which recognizes "outstanding leadership necessary to carry out an aggressive and well-balanced preservation program,” and is named in honor of John Ben Shepperd, former Texas Attorney General and THC member. In addition to all that, we heard how the Plaza Theatre is doing as the theatre's grand re-opening approaches.

March 4, 2006 We heard about Camp Furlong Days in Columbus, New Mexico as the Pancho Villa State Park commemorates the anniversary of the Pancho Villa raid on Columbus, New Mexico.

February 25, 2006 Members of the El Paso Railway and Transportation Museum, Ron Dawson and Carolyn Buchanan, were on the program to talk about the 100th anniversary of Union Station. And also we heard about Texas history when we were a sovereign nation, and what were some of the major events as Texas became a state. We talked with former Texas history teacher, and a proud Daughter of the Republic of Texas, Deen Underwood.

February 18, 2006 A Las Cruces author has written a book called "The Butterfield Trail in New Mexico." He is George Hackler, and George explained his book, which contains a lot of El Paso and Las Cruces history.

February 11, 2006 El Paso historian and author Fred Morales was in for the first hour of the program. He has a new book in his series of 7 books on the Mexican Revolution. And in our second hour, we heard about the new Historical Marker to Dr. Nixon. UTEP professor Dr. Maceo Dailey explained how Dr. Nixon is part of El Paso's Black History month. Retired missile scientist Will De Busk, also past-chairman of the El Paso County Historical Commission, was also on the program to discuss the new Historical Marker to Dr. Nixon that will be unveiled on February 18th.

February 4, 2006 ABC Channel 7 General Manager Kevin Lovell stopped by in our first hour and shared some of his views on El Paso history. Our second hour guest was Bill Creech, author of "The Third Greatest Fighter Pilot", which is a summary of his combat flying in World War Two, Korea, and Viet Nam. He flew planes from the P-39 to the F-111.

January 28, 2006 City Rep. Beto O'Rourke and a couple of architectural historians were our guests and we talked about historic building preservation in El Paso. We discussed the A.B. Fall home on Arizona Avenue.

January 21, 2006 We found out the latest info on the Plaza Theatre re-opening with Eric Pearson. And, Marilyn Gross was on the program to describe the latest edition of Password, the quarterly publication of the El Paso County Historical Society. Marilyn is the Editor of this great historical magazine, and also commented on El Paso history.

January 14, 2006 The other historic Leon in El Paso was in to talk about the El Paso history that he often portrays in dance and vignettes around the City. He has been called Mr. Enthusiasm of El Paso, and we found out why. His name is Leon Blevins, and he is full of energy and El Paso history.

January 7, 2006 Two Mormons from a Mormon colonia near Casas Grandes in the Mexican state of Chihuahua told the story of their colonia, called the Academia Juarez. They talked about Mormons in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution

December 31, 2005 Skip Clark was our guest, and he talked about several El Paso history subjects. Skip is a Volunteer Archeologist on several projects in a program of the Texas Historical Commission.

December 24, 2005 We had a Merry Christmas with a live show about the history of the horse from the 1200s in Europe to the Southwest ranches of today. And we included The Equestrian's contribution!

December 17, 2005 Bernie Sargent of the El Paso County Historical Commission discussed several topics about El Paso history, and what the Commission is doing about it. And, we reviewed the history of Mount Cristo Rey. There is hike during Sun Bowl week that we talked about.

December 10, 2005 The discussion was about the El Camino Real International Heritage Center in Socorro, NM, which just had its grand opening. Also, we will heard about the annual Tortugas Festival held this Dec. 10th weekend in Las Cruces, NM., and how it relates to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

December 3, 2005 El Paso County's Socorro Mission is being re-dedicated after a 5-year renovation. Frank Gorman and Tury Morales are our guests. And, we will hear about the Fort Bliss Cemetery from the cemetery director, Bob Flitcraft.

November 26, 2005 Thanksgiving weekend, we had a description of this year's Sunset Heights Tour of Homes happening in December from Doug Yost. That continued into a discussion about the A.B. Fall home and other historic properties in El Paso.

November 19, 2005 El Paso author David Romo described his new book "Ringside Seat to a Revolution, Underground Cultural History of El Paso and Juarez from 1893 to 1923." The book is being billed as a different approach to history, or as a people's history of El Paso during the Mexican Revolution.

November 12, 2005 Two authors from Arizona who write about the border and Texas were be our guests. Jane Eppinga and Jeanne Williams spoke about the Mexican Revolution. We also briefly heard about a Preservation Workshop in El Paso in mid-November.

November 5, 2005 El Paso author and historian Fred Moralesexplained a new exhibit about El Paso TALL MAN Jake Erlich at an El Paso library. And, in our second hour, we talked with El Paso's Insights Science Museum Director, Randal Hayes, about the Museum's new exhibit, "The Columbus Code," ( as in Christopher ) and about the first-ever public tour of the dinosaur tracks at Mount Cristo Rey.

Deming, New Mexico's Wild West Day event on Nov 13, 2005 was discussed, plus the eras of Deming history and how El Paso was part of Deming's life. Then, the Tour of Homes sponsored by the El Paso County Historical Society featured the Magoffin Historic District of El Paso, which featured, what else? El Paso's Magoffin Home. But, there are many additional historic buildings and places on the tour that include homes and businesses in the Magoffin Historic District.

We continued to talk about the Celebration of Our Mountains with a discussion about the Wyler Tramway, a part of the Franklin Mountains State Park.

El Paso Aviation Association joined us to explain some of El Paso's historical aviation events. AND we heard about the progress of the renovation of El Paso's Magoffin Home.

Concordia Heritage Association described their "Walk Through History" event where many interpreters in period costume stand at the grave of noteworthy El Pasoans buried at Concordia Cemetery and describe "their" life in El Paso. AND, we heard about the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum Cowboy Days event and old west film festival, featuring Leon Metz!

Celebrations of Our Mountains was the topic as the annual event began several weekends of hikes, tours, and seminars about the El Paso area mountains. AND, we heard about the history of Hueco Tanks State Historic Site and what they planned for their annual Interpretive Fair.

El Paso's Women's Club told us about their history. This Club was responsible for many innovations in El Paso society. AND, in our second hour we heard hear about the history of the El Paso Zoo.

El Paso Mayor John Cook described his views on El Paso's tourism industry and how El Paso history plays a role in tourism. Mike Shoffet, president of the El Paso Hotel-Motel Association joined us for the second hour and the discussion continued. Yes, mayor Cook played his guitar.

We talked with El Paso "Keystone Valley" artist and author, Bill Rakocy. He explained what is going on at the International Museum of Art.

El Paso Author Fred Morales stopped by to explain his new exhibit at the public library on Belvedere on the Westside. And, El Paso publisher and author Frank Mangan described some of his World War Two experiences from his book "MANGAN's WAR."

El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center director Leslie Novik described the current and future Museum and how many El Pasoans were affected by this dark part of human history.

Aliens have invade the El Paso Insights Museum. Director Randal Hayes explained the exhibit called Aliens, The Roswell Collection.

El Paso opera house history spans 3 centuries. We heard about opera in El Paso from Prentice Loftin from the El Paso Opera.

UTEP historian Susan Novik explains the Casasola Studio project which publishes archive photos from El Paso history in the El Paso Times.

"One Ranger" author Joaquin Jackson talked about his experiences that led to this book about the Texas Rangers.

The director, Mac Harris, and the curator, Toni Lambaugh, from the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces talked about their museum and the ancient farmers of the region.

Members of the El Paso Railway and Transportation Museum explained the continuing history of rail travel in El Paso.

We found out what is new with the renovation of El Paso's Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso.

El Paso historian Frank Gorman talked about El Paso during World War Two.

Emmet Cook was a B-17 crew member and then a POW in a German Stalag where other Americans managed to tunnel their way out of that camp. Mr. Cook, talked about those experiences.

Sheldon Hall and his wife, Jane, joined us to describe how his interest in the First Thanksgiving, which took place in El Paso County, got him "arrested" at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts.

We heard about how Colonel Doniphan won the battle of Brazito and got a major El Paso road named for him. Our guest was US Army ( ret. ) Major General Maloney, who spoke about this Christmas Day battle in 1847.

Leon talked with one of the last US Army officers of the famed Buffalo Soldiers. Lt. Col. Hal Gambrell told us some of his stories of riding horses with the 10th Cavalry in the US Army.

The El Paso Mission Trail Association has a new set of officers and some of them explained their plans for the oldest Mission Trail in North America.

El Paso County Sheriff Leo Samaniego visited to review some of the old cold cases in El Paso County history, and we heard about how his family came to live in El Paso.

Nationally-known El Paso author Robert Skimin explained his new book "Footprints of Heroes" From the American Revolution to the War in Iraq. It includes several El Pasoans who served in the US Military.

Terrie Cornell, Director of the White Sands Missile Range Museum explained a large new exhibit at the WSMR Museum about the V-2 Rocket and the grand opening set for November 18, 2004. They have rebuilt a real V-2 and now have a new DVD all about it.

Rosa Guerrero talked about 4 decades of teaching dance and instructing El Paso's youth. Her award-winning TV documentary called TAPESTRY celebrates its 30th year with a November, 2004 showing.

The first annual Mission Trail Farmer's Market in Ysleta was explained as a great celebration of El Paso.

We heard about the progress of the renovation at the Plaza Theatre and what is going on with the big pipe organ. Its last note will be played at Sunland Park Mall on Sunday, October 24th as the organ goes to be refurbished. Next note we will hear from it will be when it is re-installed in downtown El Paso at the newly renovated Plaza Theatre.

Concordia Heritage Association explained their BIG annual fundraiser and how local reenactors played the part of fifty or so of Concordia's permanent residents at this historic cemetery in El Paso.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Rangers from the Wyler Aerial Tramway and the Franklin Mountains State Park described their activities and how the public can get involved in the largest urban park in the United States, and the only public tramway in Texas.
