El Paso Partnership to Produce Heritage Television
El Paso, Texas ----- The El Paso County Historical Society announced today it has formed a partnership with Capstone Productions Inc., an El Paso-based television documentary company, to create a series of heritage television programs about the El Paso, Texas area. The Society is the premiere non-profit historical group in El Paso. Its mission is to promote and preserve the history of the El Paso area. Capstone Productions Inc. has produced five heritage documentaries about the El Paso area, including "Legends of El Pasos Mountains," which aired on El Pasos PBS station, KCOS Channel 13, in December, 2001, and March, 2002.
The planned program series will include thirteen hour-long PBS documentaries about historical, cultural and social aspects of El Pasos heritage. The Society will provide research and administration of the series, and is now accepting tax-deductible donations to fund the project from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
"El Pasos rich heritage has been shaped by more than 5,000 years of human history, from early indigenous people to Spanish conquistadores to Old West gunfighters," said Carolyn Breck, president of the 900-member El Paso County Historical Society. "This documentary project will present those stories to national and regional television audiences."
Jackson Polk, executive producer of Capstone Productions Inc., said his companys mission is to create heritage television, and El Paso has a wealth of history. "The peoples and cultures of the Pass have not only determined El Pasos history, their contributions have also helped shape the destiny of North America," Polk said. Potential program topics range from Mexican migration to conquistadores, cowboys, Old West gunfighters, military battles and bases, Indian wars, ancient villages, Spanish Missions and even lost treasure. Polk said the programs will be produced with state-of-the-art digital technology, and will raise national and regional awareness of El Pasos diverse and dramatic history.
