"Legends of El Paso's Mountains" on the Big Screen at the El Paso Museum of Art
El Paso, Texas, May 1, 2002
"Legends of El Paso's Mountains," a heritage television program
produced by Capstone Productions Inc., will be shown at a screening free and open to the
public this Saturday, May 4, 2002 at 12:30pm, Capstone's
Executive Producer Jackson Polk announced today. The screening is in the El Paso Museum of
Art's second floor theater.
This free, big screen showing is one of Capstone Productions Inc.'s contributions to the El Paso Heritage Festival," Polk said. "We
invite everyone to come Downtown for the Festival, then cool off in the museum auditorium
at the 12:30pm screening. It's a chance to see
El Paso's mountains starring in their own TV
show on a theater-sized screen. Our mountains are part of El Paso's rich heritage, and they look even better on the big
screen."
"Legends of El Paso's Mountains," was shown on El Paso's PBS station, KCOS-TV 13, last fall and again this
March. In April, the 41-minute program won a bronze Telly Award, an independent national
achievement award for outstanding non-network film and video productions and non-network
TV programming.
"Legends of El Paso's
Mountains" explores the special bond between the people of El Paso and their
mountains through stories that have been handed down from generation to generation.
"Legends" presents the city's
most famous tale of lost treasure -- the legend of the Lost Padre Mine -- as told by the
people of El Paso. It also shows how treasure seekers may have spent centuries looking in
the wrong place. The program examines how the Franklins are part of daily life, as El
Pasoans live, work and play in the Franklin mountain range. Recorded and edited on digital
video over a period of three years, "Legends of El Paso's Mountains" presents the history,
beauty and mystery of El Paso's desert
mountains. The program features two original songs. "El Paso Gold" and "The Top of
Texas" composed and performed by El Paso musician Tim Thompson with lyrics by Jackson
Polk.
Capstone Productions Inc. is an El Paso-based producer of heritage television programs
about the El Paso del Norte region. "Legends" is part of the El Paso Gold series,
celebrating the rich and diverse historical, cultural and social heritage of the El Paso
area. For more information go online to www.elpasogold.com .
