El Paso Gold Gunfights of the Old West to Premiere

El Paso, Texas -- Capstone Productions Inc. announces the premiere broadcast of its heritage video, "El Paso Gold: Gunfights of the Old West." The program airs on El Paso's PBS affiliate, KCOS Channel 13, on Tues., March 5, at 7 p.m. The half-hour program, narrated by nationally-known author and storyteller Leon Metz, features dramatic reenactments of six legendary gunfights. The shootouts all took place in El Paso between 1881 and 1896, when El Paso was the wildest frontier town in the Old West. The infamous events are performed for"El Paso Gold: Gunfights of the Old West" by Six Guns and Shady Ladies, an El Paso reenactment group. The performances were digitally recorded and mastered in stereo by Capstone Productions Inc., an award-winning producer of heritage television productions based in El Paso.

Two of the reenactments -- the infamous "Four Dead in Five Seconds Shootout" and the "John Wesley Hardin Shooting" -- were recorded at Franklin Town, an Old West town on the outskirts of El Paso, and made available by El Rancho Escondido Restaurant. Other famous gunfights were reenacted in Downtown El Paso on the exact locations of the original events. These include the "Bill Johnson Shootout," "Dallas Stoudenmire Gunfight," "Alice Abbot Gunfight with Etta Clark," and "John Selman Gunned Down." Narrator Leon Metz retells these legendary stories in true Old West style.

To highlight the program's March 5th debut, author Leon Metz will appear live in the KCOS studios to answer viewer calls and comment on the video. Pledge calls will be taken by reenactors from Six Guns and Shady Ladies dressed in period costume. "El Paso Gold: Gunfights of the Old West" will air two additional times during the KCOS membership campaign: March 10th at 6 p.m. and March 20th at 8:30 p.m. Those broadcasts will also feature the re-airing of "El Paso Gold: Legends of El Paso's Mountains," the most recent heritage program from Capstone Productions Inc., which debuted on KCOS in December, 2001.

Slow-motion special effects in "El Paso Gold: Gunfights of the Old West" allow the details of these dramatic gunfights to be recounted step-by-step, giving the modern day viewer a feel for the danger and lawlessness of El Paso in the days of the Old West. Digital editing and a stereo soundtrack produce a realistic, educational, and entertaining program. The program was produced with the assistance of El Paso's Hilton Camino Real Hotel, which allowed its east entrance -- the original location of the Downtown shootings -- to be used. Saloon piano music from the period is performed by David Bourne of California. For more information log onto the El Paso Gold website at www.elpasogold.com .
